Soho, London

Hotels in
Soho.

London's bohemian heart — West End theatres, global dining, LGBTQ+ bars and round-the-clock energy.

Why stay in Soho.

The neighborhood in three honest paragraphs — no tourism brochure.

Soho packs more per square mile than any neighbourhood in London. The West End, Chinatown, the LGBTQ+ heartland of Old Compton Street and some of the city's best restaurants all share the same compact grid of Georgian streets. Bohemians, musicians and artists have called it home for over a century — and the electricity hasn't dimmed.

By day it belongs to film production companies, ad agencies and specialty coffee. After dark it becomes the engine room of London's nightlife: theatre queues, packed restaurants, pubs spilling onto the pavement, bars that stay open late. Soho doesn't have one character. It has ten, running simultaneously.

Staying in Soho means being at the centre of everything. Walk out the door and Piccadilly Circus, Covent Garden, Oxford Street and Leicester Square are all within minutes. The trade-off is constant noise, crowded pavements and some of the highest hotel rates in the city. For anyone travelling for theatre, food and nightlife, there's no better base in London.

How to get here.

Airport, metro, taxi and walkability — with real costs, not brochure prices.

From the airport

From Heathrow (LHR), Soho is 16 miles away: take the Piccadilly line direct to Leicester Square (50–60 min, £5.60) or the Heathrow Express to Paddington then a taxi. From Gatwick (LGW): Gatwick Express to Victoria, then 10 min by Tube. Black cab from Heathrow: £55–75.

Metro and train

Surrounded by Tube stations: Tottenham Court Road (Central/Northern/Elizabeth), Leicester Square (Piccadilly/Northern), Oxford Circus (Central/Bakerloo/Victoria) and Piccadilly Circus. The Elizabeth line cuts journey times to Heathrow and Canary Wharf.

Taxi and Uber

Black cabs everywhere, Uber and Bolt both work well. Traffic in Soho moves slowly — walking is often faster for short distances. £12–20 to the City or South Bank.

On foot

Outstanding. Covent Garden 5 min, Piccadilly Circus 5 min, Oxford Street 5 min, Trafalgar Square 8 min, British Museum 10 min. Flat and dense.

When to go.

High season, low season, sweet spot and when to skip. No romanticizing.

High season

June to August plus December (Christmas in the West End). Hotels run 50–90% above average. Book early — December especially fills fast.

Low season

January and February. Cold and grey, but theatres and restaurants are open and prices drop around 30%.

Sweet spot · Voyspark recommendation

May and September/early October. Milder weather, longer days and below-peak crowds.

Skip if

You want early nights and silence: Soho is loud until the early hours. Try Bloomsbury or Kensington instead.
