TITLE
Black Card Concierge: what to ask in Tokyo, Paris and NYC (tested)
SUBTITLE
Mastercard Travel Pass, Visa Infinite and Amex Centurion in practice. Real requests that work, English scripts and what NOT to push for.
EXCERPT
Sukiyabashi Jiro booked 6 months ahead, Le Bristol with no Sunday queue, MoMA closed just for you. All of this is possible through the concierge — but almost no cardholder asks the right way. This guide shows exactly what to request in Tokyo, Paris and New York, with tested English scripts, real lead times and the honest limits of each concierge (Mastercard Black, Visa Infinite, Amex Centurion).
KEY_TAKEAWAYS
- Sukiyabashi Jiro Honten (Ginza): must be requested 6 months ahead via Amex Centurion or Mastercard Black + partner hotel. Visa Infinite rarely lands it.
- Le Bristol Paris (Sunday brunch): Mastercard Black Travel Pass secures a table with no queue 2-3 weeks ahead. English request, specific format.
- MoMA after-hours private tour: exclusive to Amex Centurion or premium Visa Infinite. Out-of-pocket cost: USD 3,500-7,000.
- Tokyo is the city where concierge makes the biggest difference. Paris is where it works most through prestige. New York is where money talks louder than the card.
- Mastercard Black carries less weight than Amex Centurion. Premium Visa Infinite sits in between.
- Always write the request in English. The final booking is negotiated in English or Japanese — context loss costs you the table.
- Local Centurion is inferior to US Centurion. For full power, consider Amex Platinum US.
BODY
You've had the Black for years. You know there's a hotline, a WhatsApp or an email for the concierge. You've probably asked for a basic restaurant reservation — maybe a cab — and assumed that was it.
It isn't. The premium card concierge is a global outsourced department (Aspire Lifestyles serves Mastercard, Ten Group serves Visa Infinite and Amex Centurion worldwide) with direct access to maître d'hôtel, hotel managers, venue managers and cultural curators who accept requests you could NEVER land on your own.
Most people don't use it because they think they'll get a generic call center, don't know what to ask, ask in their local language to an English-speaking agent, don't give enough lead time, or ask the wrong thing (dinner tomorrow at Jiro) and give up. This pillar fixes all five.
Mastercard Black Concierge (Travel Pass + Priceless Cities)
Operated by Aspire Lifestyles (Mastercard subsidiary). Serves Mastercard Black, World Elite and Diamond globally.
Channels: WhatsApp Travel Pass, email concierge@mastercardtravelpass.com, web travelpass.mastercard.com.
Delivers well: 1-2 Michelin star restaurants with 2-4 weeks notice, Priceless Cities, Fine Hotels partners, Broadway/West End/Cirque tickets, luxury transfers.
Does NOT deliver: Sukiyabashi Jiro Honten, Per Se chef's table, access to private clubs where you're not a member.
Real limit: unlimited spend, but Aspire operates a global priority queue. A 48h request has ~30% success at 3 stars. With 4-6 weeks, it climbs to ~75%.
Visa Infinite Concierge
Operated by Ten Group (same operator as Amex Centurion, but lower queue). Serves Visa Infinite and Visa Infinite Privilege.
Channels: hotline + card ID, regional concierge email, Visa Infinite app (slow, avoid).
Delivers well: Visa Infinite Dining, 1 Michelin star restaurants with 2 weeks, suite upgrade at Visa Luxury Hotel Collection, ICONS greens fees, UEFA/US Open/Roland Garros finals via sponsorship.
Does NOT deliver well: Jiro, Saito, Den, L'Arpège in 2 weeks, Per Se or Eleven Madison Park at prime time.
Real limit: Ten Group prioritizes Amex Centurion. Identical request: Centurion closes first in ~70% of cases.
Amex Centurion Concierge (Black Card)
Operated by Centurion Concierge (Ten Group + in-house structure). Serves Centurion + Platinum.
Channels: dedicated 24h line, Amex app (human chat in 2 min), Centurion Relationship Manager email.
Delivers: practically everything. Includes Jiro Honten, MoMA after-hours, Annabel's London, Hôtel du Cap in high season. Exclusive events (US Open suite, Cannes premiere, Art Basel). Fine Hotels with guaranteed upgrade + USD 100 credit + 4pm late check-out. Hermès Paris personal shopper. NetJets.
Real limit: local Centurion can be inferior to US Centurion. US Centurion is 24h global, no cap. For full power: Amex Platinum US (USD 695/year) delivers 90% of what Centurion delivers.
Tokyo: what to ask (and when)
Tokyo is the city where concierge makes the biggest difference. Without it, top restaurants are closed to foreigners without a referral. It's not xenophobia — it's queue management.
Sukiyabashi Jiro Honten (Ginza, 2 stars)
- Minimum lead time: 6 months
- Who lands it: Centurion (90%), Mastercard Black via Mandarin/Peninsula (60%), Visa Infinite (~15%)

Sushi Saito (Roppongi, 3 stars): 12 months. Only Centurion + direct referral, or Aman Tokyo hotel. JPY 70,000/person. ~50% success even with Centurion.

Paris: what to ask (and how)
Paris is where the card works most through prestige. French maître d'hôtel respect Amex Centurion and Mastercard Black when the request arrives in the right format.
Le Bristol — Sunday Brunch (no queue): 2-3 weeks. Mastercard Black (85%), Visa Infinite (75%), Centurion (95%). EUR 195/person, champagne included.
Script: "Bonjour, I'd like to book Sunday brunch at Le Bristol Paris (Le Jardin Français) for [date], party of [N], preferably 12:30 seating. Guests of the [your hotel] and would appreciate a garden table. Cardholder: [name], Mastercard Black. Confirmation by email to [email]. Merci."
L'Arpège (Alain Passard, 3 stars): 4-6 weeks. Centurion (80%), Mastercard Black via Peninsula/Bristol (60%), Visa Infinite (30%). EUR 490/person dinner (lunch tasting EUR 175).
Septime (Bastille, 1 star): 3 weeks. All cards ~60%. Trick: Friday lunch, not Saturday dinner.
Frenchie (Rue du Nil, 1 star): 2 weeks. EUR 130/person. Mastercard Black handles it.
Hermès Faubourg (Birkin/Kelly): Centurion only, via Amex Paris personal shopper. No guarantee — Hermès doesn't sell on demand.
NYC: where money talks louder than the card
New York is the opposite of Tokyo. The card helps, but the right tip + direct relationship gets you further.
Per Se (Thomas Keller, 3 stars): 2 months (booking opens exactly 2 months before at 10am ET). The card doesn't skip the Per Se queue. USD 425/person (tasting menu, no drinks). Chef's table: YES, only Centurion lands it, 4 months ahead.
Eleven Madison Park (Daniel Humm, 3 stars, vegan): 30 days (public booking opens 30 days ahead). All cards equal. Bar seat (USD 175) via concierge with 1-2 weeks.
Atomix (Junghyun Park, 2 stars, Korean): 60 days. Centurion ~50%. Others: low. USD 295/person.
MoMA after-hours private tour: Centurion or premium Visa Infinite. USD 3,500-7,000 (up to 8 people). 3-4 months ahead.
Script: "Hello, I'd like to inquire about arranging a private after-hours tour at MoMA for [date], party of [N]. Interested in [contemporary collection / specific exhibition]. Cardholder: [name], Amex Centurion. Please send pricing, curator options, and confirmation timeline. Thanks."
Others: Top of the Rock private viewing (Priceless Cities/Centurion ~USD 1,200), Broadway last-row orchestra (all concierges, USD 350-600), NBA courtside via Centurion + JPMorgan suite.

Honest limits — what concierge does NOT do
Can't get a personal favor at a restaurant where you've never been. Doesn't discount prices. Doesn't cover gray-area asks (access to a private club where you're not a member). Doesn't replace a complex travel agency (use Virtuoso, Brownell, A&K for 14-day, 6-city trips). Response time varies: Centurion 2-15 min, Visa Infinite 30 min to 4h, Mastercard Black 1-24h.
How to maximize results in 2026
- Always 4-6 weeks minimum for 2+ Michelin stars.
- Write in English even with a local agent.
- Include date + flexibility + size + hotel + local contact + dietary restriction in the first email.
- State card + last 4 digits at the start (speeds the queue).
- Have a strong partner hotel (Mandarin, Peninsula, Four Seasons, Aman, Park Hyatt).
- For Tokyo, consider Centurion or Amex Platinum US.
- Use the concierge for things you can't get yourself. Don't waste it on a reservation that opens on OpenTable.
When concierge isn't worth the effort
1-star restaurants with open public booking (use OpenTable/Resy), standard tourist tours (buy on GetYourGuide), regular airport transfer (Uber Black), movie tickets, museums with short queues, parks.
Perguntas frequentes
