Airline denied you boarding due to oversold seats — even if the flight departed on time.
Missed connection
Airline delay caused a missed connection, and your final arrival was 3h+ late.
Exceptions: EU261 does not apply
Severe weather, external ATC strike, terror act, airport closure. A strike by the airline’s own crew is NOT an exception (ECJ 2018).

How much is an EU261 claim?+
€250 (up to 1,500 km), €400 (1,500-3,500 km or intra-EU) or €600 (over 3,500 km non-EU). Fixed per passenger, cash.
How many delay hours qualify?+
3 hours or more at arrival (Sturgeon vs Condor ruling, 2009). Cancellation with less than 14 days notice also qualifies.
Does the flight need to be European?+
EU261 covers departures from any EU/EEA/UK/Switzerland airport (any airline), and arrivals to the EU on a European carrier. TAP Brazil-Lisbon: covered. LATAM Brazil-Lisbon: not.
And Brazilian flights (ANAC)?+
ANAC Resolution 400 guarantees a full refund, hotel and meals, but no fixed compensation. Procon is the free channel. AirHelp covers EU261-eligible flights too.
