Flying with a Surfboard, Bicycle, or Guitar: The Rules and Costs Nobody Warns You About
A surfboard costs between R$250 and R$450 on LATAM and GOL domestic flights, a bicycle runs US$150 to US$200 on American and United, and a golf bag often flies free because it counts as the standard checked bag. Guitars and violins have a cabin rule backed by federal law in the United States since 2015: if they fit in the overhead bin, they board without a fee, no longer dependent on a flight attendant's goodwill. None of these fees appear on the ticket purchase screen. They surface at check-in, alongside checked baggage, and can double the real cost of a trip.

Wrong name on a plane ticket: when the fix is free and when the ticket dies
A typo of up to three characters in the passenger's name is usually fixed for free if corrected within 24 hours of purchase, a policy followed by GOL, Azul, and LATAM. Changing an entire last name is a different category: it can cost between R$150 and R$600 depending on the fare, sometimes more than the original ticket. Changing the ticket holder, issuing it to someone other than the buyer, is banned by most airfares worldwide. Bookings made through an agency or with miles follow their own rules, almost always stricter than the airline's direct counter.
