FAQ
How many days ahead is the forecast reliable?+
The first 7 days are highly accurate (above 85%). Days 8–10 drop to 70–75% confidence. Days 11–16 are a likely scenario, not a guarantee. Use the long forecast to plan packing and itinerary, but confirm 3 days before the trip.
Where does the data come from? Is Open-Meteo reliable?+
Yes. Open-Meteo aggregates open numerical models (ECMWF, GFS, ICON, MET Norway) — the same ones national weather agencies use. It is free, no API key, and accuracy is comparable to paid sources (Weather.com, AccuWeather) for most destinations.
How will I know about hurricanes, monsoons or heatwaves?+
The 16-day forecast triggers automatic alerts when the model detects heatwaves (above 35°C for 3+ days), severe storms, strong cold fronts or extreme rain. For tropical cyclone seasons (Caribbean Aug–Oct, Pacific Jun–Nov, Indian Ocean Nov–Apr), also check NHC and JTWC.
What clothes should I bring based on the forecast?+
The tool automatically suggests: windbreaker if wind exceeds 25 km/h, rain jacket if rain probability above 40%, warm layer if low below 12°C, SPF 50 sunscreen if UV above 6. The list is generated daily based on the forecast.
Is rain always bad for a trip?+
No. Light rain (up to 5mm/day) rarely disrupts an urban itinerary. Concentrated 1–2 hour tropical afternoon storms are predictable and workable. Rain all day for 3+ days in a row is the scenario to reconsider — the tool highlights those days.
What does "feels like" mean?+
It is what your body actually senses, combining temperature, wind and humidity. In cold weather with strong wind, the feel drops far below the real temperature (wind chill). In humid heat, it climbs (heat index). Dress for the feels-like, not the thermometer.
Is high UV dangerous even in winter?+
Yes. UV above 6 burns skin in 20–30 minutes without protection, regardless of temperature. At high altitude (above 2000m), with reflective snow, or near the equator, UV is high even on cloudy days. Use SPF 30+ whenever the index is above 5.
What is the best time of day for outdoor activity?+
The tool marks the best slot per day: morning (6am–12pm), afternoon (12pm–6pm) or evening. In tropical summer, early morning avoids peak heat and afternoon rain. At high latitudes in winter, afternoon is the slot with the most sunlight.
What is the historical average comparison good for?+
The monthly historical average shows the typical climate, no surprises. If the 7–16 day forecast is far above or below it, that signals an anomalous event (heatwave, unusual cold front). Use the two together to calibrate expectations.
Can I use it offline or once the trip has started?+
The tool caches the last query locally for 1 hour. On the trip, we recommend reopening the forecast 1–3 days before each activity. Hotel wi-fi is enough — the API call is light.
